Turnout Rockets to 40% at Bulgaria's Crucial Elections

Turnout has reached some 40% towards the end of Bulgaria's May 12 snap parliamentary voting Sunday.

Regional Electoral Commissions are reporting data showing that the turnout was 37-42% around 5.30 pm, stated Bulgaria's Central Electoral Commission.

Highest turnout this far has been recorded in the 23rd election district in capital Sofia (47.49%), while the lowest - in Kardzhali (37.16%).

Polling stations opened Sunday at 7 am and will close at 8 pm, or later at stations in front of which there are lines of voters.

The election authority estimated turnout to be 27-30% at 1.30 pm, election mid-day.
