Bulgaria's Political Theater: 'Vazrazhdane' Leader Predicts Spring Elections
In a bold prediction, Kostadin Kostadinov, the leader of Bulgaria's pro-Russian party "Vazrazhdane," foresees early parliamentary elections in the spring of 2024
President Rosen Plevneliev has addressed the nation, urging Bulgarians to vote at the parliamentary elections on Sunday.
Addressing Bulgarians on the final day of the election campaign, the head of state voiced hopes that the population would use its "most powerful weapon" to set rules and place tasks before politicians.
"Let the group of abstainees not be the most numerous one on Sunday. It is important that we exercise our right to vote," Plevneliev stated.
"On Sunday, our vote will show what sort of government we want, what is good for the state and for the people. Civic activity and civic control go hand in hand – this is the meaning of representative democracy. I am convinced that the more of us go to the polls at the upcoming elections, the more legitimate the next government will be, and the more committed it will be to the problems of our society. This is what Bulgaria needs now. We need stability and a working Parliament because we are a parliamentary republic. We need a government which enjoys wide public support and institutions which are open to the problems of people," he stated.
He emphasized that by voting Bulgarians would be entitled to demand answers from politicians they had trusted.
"All of us expect working solutions from the government. We now have the most powerful opportunity to choose not only the vision for the development of our homeland but also the people who shall implement it. Our hopes, the future we expect for us and our children, all of this does indeed depend on us," he stated.
Plevneliev called on young people to not take their voting rights for granted and allow others to decide for them.
"Let us prove that we are capable of deciding matters that are important for the country - let all of us be active and exercise our right to vote," the President urged.
He summarized that a total of 45 political parties and coalitions had presented their platforms and ideas during the past month, adding that the election campaign had offered concrete commitments, as well as slogans and a number of scandals.
