Bulgaria's Stiliyan Petrov to Join Aston Villa for Pre-season Training
Bulgarian midfielder Stiliyan Petrov will join the first team of Aston Villa in its pre-season training.
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert wants Stiliyan Petrov’s legendary status with Aston Villa fans recognised in the club’s Hall of Fame.
“Stiliyan is a Villa legend. There are 12 names in the Villa Hall of Fame and it would be fantastic if the fans voted Stiliyan in next,” Lambert has said, according to The Sun.
Stiliyan Petrov will lead out his team-mates and their families for the last time during a poignant farewell at the end of Saturday’s final home game against Chelsea.
Petrov announced Thursday that he is quitting professional football as he continues his fight against leukemia. The former midfielder is now in remission after being diagnosed with the illness in March last year.
The industrious Bulgarian international had been playing for Villa since 2006, after seven seasons in Celtic.
