Bulgaria’s caretaker Prime Minister Marin Raykov has urged all political parties taking part in the ongoing election campaign not to resort to mudslinging.
Raykov warned that the parties that resort to black PR and smear campaigning will be “punished by the voters.”
“The only political parties able to deal with the country’s problems are those that have clear and constructive programs,” he told reporters.
The center-right GERB government of former PM Boyko Borisov resigned amid massive protests against corruption and poverty in February, prompting President Rosen Plevneliev to adjourn the Parliament, appoint a caretaker Cabinet and schedule snap elections for May 12.
GERB has a slight edge over the opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party, according to polls.
The Balkan country has been shaken by a massive wiretapping scandal recently.
