Syria to Answer Israel's 'Declaration of War'

World | May 5, 2013, Sunday // 17:54

Syria interprets the Israeli air strike on targets in Damascus as a declaration of war, said Syrian deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Faisal Mekdad.

Earlier Sunday Israel fired a number of rockets on what some sources claimed were Iranian missiles shipped for Hezbollah use in Syria.

Mekdad further stated that Syria will answer the strike, when it sees this as necessary.

Iran and the Arab League countries have already denounced the Israeli strike.

On his part, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has cancelled a planned trip to China, but without commenting on the incident.

According to reports, Israel has already deployed a missile shield along its northern border to ward off a retaliatory strike from Syria.
