British Prime Minister David Cameron has stated that there will not be a massive influx of Bulgarian and Romanian nationals once labor restrictions for the two Balkan countries are lifted at the end of 2013.
The influx of migrants from Bulgaria and Romania will be nothing like the levels seen when Poland joined the European Union, Cameron said.
He reminded that the huge numbers coming from Poland since it joined the EU in 2004 was due to Britain putting no controls on immigration while other countries did.
“This time because the transitional controls have been put in, we are not lifting the restrictions on Romania and Bulgaria alone, it’s happening right across Europe,” the Prime Minister pointed out, as cited by the Daily Mail.
Controversial claims have been made by a number of British tabloids and politicians that the UK should brace for a massive"influx" of Bulgarian and Romanian migrants after the end of 2013. It has been claimed that lifting the restriction would "put pressure" on housing, infrastructure, schools, and heath care.
