The recordings in the latest developments of Bulgaria’s ‘'watergate' scandal are authentic and there is no doubt about it, an outspoken and fiery opposition leader has stated.

“I think the recording was made by [former agriculture minister] Miroslav Naydenov. He had to do this not only to shield himself from prosecution, but also to save his life and take his family abroad,” Tatyana Doncheva, a former leading Socialist, who started a new civic movement in 2010, told novinite.bg on Friday.

Doncheva referred to Miroslav Naydenov, the former Agriculture Minister in the Cabinet of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB, who exposed earlier this week mass unauthorized spying practices in the country.

Naydenov made the stunning admission Thursday morning, speaking before bTV in his first interview after the prosecution charged him with corruption.

He denied the charges and insisted it has been a set up.

After being initially hesitant, Naydenov declared that former Interior Minister, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, had indeed been illegally snooping around and eavesdropping on all members of the Cabinet, along with President Rosen Plevneliev, possibly former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, and many other senior officials.

The former Minister accused Tsvetanov of spying in order to blackmail everyone and eliminate all who would get closer to Borisov. He told "horror" stories of how Ministers and other high-ranking people would turn the radio on louder and let water run in order to hush the bugs they feared were everywhere around them.

According to Naydenov, his colleagues in the Cabinet were terrified by the spying as they all, without exception, felt harassed and nervous.

He also stated that Borisov did not know about the illegal snooping.

“This is the first time that we have proof of what we have known for a long time. The recordings have been made recently, the topic of elections make it clear," Doncheva commented on Friday.

Earlier on Friday Bulgarian media published a scandalous special surveillance devices recording including a conversation between him, former Agriculture Minister, Miroslav Naydenov, and Sofia City Prosecutor, Nikolay Kokinov.

It is filled with profanities, curses, vulgarities, and insults of prosecutors, politicians, and journalists, including ridicule of some of them over appearing to be homosexual.

The most insults are directed at Chief Prosecutor, Sotir Tsatsarov, with Kokinov blaming Borisov of handpicking him as it turned out he was not acting as expected.

The talk in the scandalous recording basically revolves around corruption charges pressed against Naydenov and Kokinov being in hot water over breaches he had committed, and ways for both to get out of them.

In commenting on the recording, Borisov said it was obvious there is a second, illegal Interior Ministry, which works parallel with the State institution to produce discrediting information about politicians and distribute slander.

He voiced fear his private home might be bugged as well.

The former PM stressed he had not listen to the tape and would not listen to it as he did not want to go near disgusting things, so he had no idea if the recording was fake or tempered with.

He, however, pointed out that in these days technology is capable of everything.
