Bulgaria's Customs Agency has come up with a media statement commenting on the stopped preliminary execution of the decision to suspend a license of fuel retailer Lukoil Bulgaria EOOD for running a tax warehouse.

The license was granted to the company for operating the pipeline from the Burgas-based Lukoil Neftochim refinery to the Iliyantsi warehouse and the six storage facilities connected to it – Karnobat, Stara Zagora, Plovdiv, Vetren, Ihtiman, and Iliyantsi.

Late on Tuesday, the Sofia Administrative Court ruled on the complaint of Lukoil against the decision of the Customs Agency, ordering that the license suspension procedure be stopped.

The court stopped the preliminary execution of Customs Agency head Vanyo Tanov, adding that potential punitive measures against Lukoil would be reviewed in separate proceedings.

"On this night, the court missed the chance to dispel doubts plaguing Bulgarian society that our country is ruled by an oligarchy," the Customs Agency said in a statement Wednesday.

"On this night, the heavy shadow of foreign interests hung over an EU Member State and a NATO Member State. On this night, it emerged that not everybody is equal before the law and the principles of free market in a rule-of-law country. On this night, institutions lost dignity, the state lost revenues, and citizens lost the belief that they could live in a normal country. On this night, the law bowed to monopoly," the customs authority noted.
