Two Bulgarian nationals, Miro Asenov, 40, and Arben Donchev, 25, have been convicted on charges of organizing prostitution and human trafficking in Brussels.

The two were penalized with imprisonment, fines, and confiscation of property, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR), citing a publication of La Derniere Heure.

The court ruled that Asenov and Donchev were part of an international organized crime ring.

Asenov will spend seven years in prison, pay a fine of EUR 24 000, and will have EUR 29 925 confiscated.

Donchev will spend six years in prison, pay a fine of EUR 24 000, and have EUR 41 625 confiscated.

The investigators concluded that the two conducted the criminal activity in the period 2011 – 2012, they were in charge of six girls, almost all of them from the same region in Bulgaria.

All of the victims were too afraid to testify.

The investigation started after Asenov, whose phone was being wiretapped, told friends that he was considering moving business to Germany because prostitution was no longer a money-making business in Brussels.
