Investment Agency Ad Downsizes Bulgaria's Map
The Investment Agency is advertising Bulgaria as investment haven by presenting an incorrect map where southwestern parts of the country are missing.
The promotional clips are aired in Europe and Asia on CNBC and Bloomberg and on CNN in the US.
The clip is generally liked, but more alert internet users have noticed that the towns of Melnik and Sandanski are not on the map, the BGNES news agency reported Thursday.
This is the most recent blunder of State institutions, after the New Year's Eve address of President, Rosen Plevneliev, which showcased the Rocky Mountains in Colorado, US, instead of the Bulgarian winter resort of Pamporovo.
"People, study geography and then mount video clips for BGN millions," a Facebook user writes.
In the aftermath of statements, mixing ridicule and outrage, the Investment Agency Head, Borislav Stefanov, told NovaNews.bg the ad will be corrected and its airing with the wrong map will be stopped until the changes are in place.
The ad is part of the project to popularize the advantages to invest in Bulgaria.
In March, representatives of leading international media visited Sofia when 630 Bloomberg, CNBC, and CNN broadcasts of 3 advertising video clips in English, Japanese, Chinese and German were negotiated.
40 advertising banners are being published on the internet sites of Wall Street Journal, Economist, Financial Times, Bloomberg, Businessweek, Bloomberg TV, CNBC and CNN, along with ads in 8 print editions in Europe, the US, and Asia of Financial Times, Economist, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and Businessweek.
The project for the amount of BGN 21.5 M further includes 39 print publications, 12 weeks of presence in online search engines, and 5 online short documentaries with opinions of foreign investors about Bulgaria.
