British Prime Minister David Cameron has assured Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev that the labor restrictions for Bulgarians and Romanians will be lifted on January 1, 2014.

Bulgaria's head of state was on a visit to London to attend the funeral of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

During his visit to the UK capital, Plevneliev met with David Cameron and government representatives, according to reports of the President's press office, as cited by dnevnik.bg.

Plevneliev was given assurances that the abolition of the labor restrictions would happen smoothly.

Bulgaria's head of state also discussed the Nabucco West gas pipeline project with representatives of British Petroleum, which participant countries are trying to attract as a strategic investor.

Stressing that Bulgaria was in need of a diversification of gas supply sources, Plevneliev added that the country would back any pipe crossing its territory.

He commented that the implementation of Nabucco West had reached its final stage.

Plevneliev suggested that Nabucco West was a competitive project which required substantial efforts by the participants in the Nabucco consortium in order to attract a strategic investment.

He added, however, that the investment decision could not be predicted yet.

The final decision on the route of the Nabucco West pipeline will be made in June 2013.
