Bulgarian Caretaker PM Doesn't Believe He's Been Wiretapped

Bulgarian caretaker Prime Minister Marin Raykov does not believe that he and his recently appointed Cabinet have been wiretapped.
Commenting on the wiretapping scandal that has rattled the country since the end of March, Raykov told reporters that “competent authorities should do their work.”
Two Interior Ministry employees have been temporarily dismissed after allegedly deleting illegal wiretapping recordings of Bulgarian politicians, businesspeople and magistrates.
The wiretapping scandal began on March 28, when Sergey Stanishev, leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, submitted a tip-off to Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov about illegal wiretapping of politicians, businessmen and magistrates which had taken place while former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov was in office.
Bulgaria’s prosecuting authority announced Monday that it had uncovered a series of violations at the country’s Interior Ministry allowing unregulated wiretapping.
Speaking at a press conference, Tsatsarov announced that the prosecuotors’probe had revealed numerous violations related to the deployment of surveillance equipment and the oversight of such operations.
Tsvetanov continues to deny any involvement in the illegal spying amidst calls from the opposition to step down and leave politics for good.
