After May 12 elections, Bulgaria will have to be once again ruled by a coalition, stated liberal Movement for Rights and Freedoms party Lyutvi Mestan Saturday, adding his party is ready to take part in such a coalition.

"Coalition rule was not done at its best by previous coalition cabinets. But we have learned our lesson," said Mestan at MRF's campaign opening in Kardzhali.

Together with the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the National Movement for Stability and Prosperity, the Movement was part of the tri-partite cabinet that ruled Bulgaria 2005-9.

Before that, it was a junior partner in the 2001-5 NMSP led cabinet.

Former Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov (2009-13) did much to discredit the notion of coalition-rule in Bulgaria, by saying it is conducive to unprincipled compromise, dealing under the table and corruption.

"Bulgaria needs a restoration of democratic rule - a rule alternative to that by Borisov's GERB," said Mestan Saturday.

According to current opinion polls, no Bulgarian party is likely to get an absolute majority of seats at the May 12 vote.
