UK Labour Party leader Ed Miliband has expressed his deepest respect for former British PM Margaret Thatcher, who passed away Monday.

Miliband send his condolences to Lady Thatcher's family, calling the first woman PM of Britain "a unique figure."

"The Labour Party disagreed with much of what she did and she will always remain a controversial figure. But we also greatly respect her political achievements and her personal strength," said the leftist leader.

"Margaret Thatcher reshaped the politics of a whole generation. She moved the centre ground of British politics and was a huge figure on the world stage," added he.

Miliband in particular stressed to what extent the current political climate in the UK is still shaped by Thatcher's contribution in the late 1970s and the 1980s.
