No representatives of Bulgaria’s Central Electoral Commission will take part in the country’s newly created Election Board, it was announced on Wednesday.

Central Electoral Commission chair Krasimira Medarova has explained that the Commission’s role in the election process has been determined clearly in the Bulgarian legislation.

The newly formed Election Board at the Bulgarian Council of Ministries held its first sitting on Wednesday.

The Election Board at the Council of Ministries is to organize and carry out the snap general elections on May 12 in a fair and transparent manner. It is a different structure from the planned public councils at some ministries and the Cabinet.

The snap elections will be held in Bulgaria just two months ahead of the regularly-scheduled ones due to the February 21st resignation of Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, and the Cabinet of his Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria party, GERB.
