Bulgaria's center-right GERB party is likely to win the upcoming snap elections in the country, according to a new poll.

The poll, conducted by the Institute for Modern Policy, suggests that GERB is supported by some 24.8% of all voters.

The left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party stands at 20.6%, according to the pollsters.

The ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms comes third with 5.6%, followed by the ultra-nationalist Ataka (4.9%).

One more party – the Bulgaria for Citizens movement of former European Commissioner Meglena Kuneva – appears likely to enter the next Parliament, as it stands at 4.3%, according to the Institute for Modern Policy.

The center-right government of former PM Boyko Borisov resigned amid massive anti-poverty protests in February, prompting President Rosen Plevneliev to adjourn the Parliament, appoint a caretaker Cabinet and schedule snap elections for May 12.

A poll conducted by Alpha Research has also suggested that GERB is in the lead ahead of the elections.
