Bulgaria caretaker PM Marin Raykov has called on the governors of Bulgaria's regions who are affiliated with political parties to go on a leave during the campaign leading to the May 12 early elections.
Tuesday Raykov met Bulgaria's 28 regional governors to discuss the preparations for the vote.
"The situation ahead of elections is quite specific given the tense social climate in the country," said the PM.
"I want you to concentrate on cooperating with central authorities for the successful holding of elections," added he.
Raykov stressed that all governors who are also party functionaries ought to step down for the period of elections, or else leave their party position.
"Regional authorities must send a clear message to the public that they are going to be unbiassed," stated Raykov.
After the meeting, the caretaker PM confirmed that governors stated they are ready to fulfil his request.
