The leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, and of the Party of European Socialists, PES, former Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, announced ex Finance Minister, Plamen Oresharski as his choice for the next country leader .
Speaking for Darik radio Saturday, Stanishev said from all people on the ballots of the Socialists, Oresharski was the best emanation of predictability, economic competency, proven great budget planner and contributor to economic growth.
"He is the strongest nomination right now and he is the person to help his country the best in times of need. I am ready to stand firmly for this nomination before my entre party and all citizens of Bulgaria as I am convinced of his personal qualities and expertise," said Stanishev.
Oresharski is leading the BSP ballot in the Black Sea city of Varna for the snap May 12 general elections.
Plamen Oresharski was appointed Bulgaria's Finance Minister in the Cabinet of the Three-Way Coalition, led by Stanishev, on August 17, 2005.
Stanishev has already announced that if BSP was to win the elections, he would not be the country's next PM.
Prior to his appointment as Minister of Finance, Oresharski was the Vice President of the University of National and World Economy from 2003 to 2005. From 1997 to 2001, he served as Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Finance in the right-wing Cabinet of PM Ivan Kostov, where he managed the State debt, fiscal and bonds markets.
From 1993 to 1997 Oresharski worked as Director of the Finance Ministry's State Treasury and Debt Directorate.
He is one of the key members of the team that introduced the Currency Board in Bulgaria.
Oresharski was born on February 21, 1960. He has a BS, MS, and PhD in investment and investment analysis from the University of National and World Economy in Sofia.
