A strong 6.1 earthquake shook central Taiwan Wednesday morning, killing one and leaving at least 19 injured.

The jolt struck the central region of Nantou county at 10:03 a.m., according to reports of Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau, as cited by the BBC News.

The quake struck at a depth of 15.4 kilometers and was followed by at least five aftershocks.

The National Fire Administration said the quake killed a 72-year-old woman died and injured at least 19.
