Bulgarian nationalist Ataka party leader Volen Siderov has denied any possibility that his party could form a coalition with former ruling GERB party after early elections May 12.

Upon registering Ataka for the vote Monday, Siderov suggested that his party might coalesce with GERB, should the latter "learn the lessons from their rule."

Tuesday Siderov interpreted his earlier pronouncement as being simply the product of "good manners of speaking," and said it was misinterpreted by reporters.

"There is no way Ataka can form a coalition with GERB, the Bulgarian Socialist Party or the remnants of the rightist Blue Coalition," stated Siderov.

According to him, those are the chief culprits to blame for the stagnation Bulgaria has found itself in in the past 20 or so years since the start of transition from communism in 1989.

In the past few months, Siderov and Ataka have been outspoken critics of the former Bulgarian cabinet, led by GERB leader Boyko Borisov.

After a drastic fall in 2012, opinion polls have support for Ataka growing in the early months of 2013, which were marked by street protests that ousted Borisov from office.
