A post-mortem examination has found Russian tycoon Boris Berezovsky's death was "consistent with hanging", police have said.

Berezovsky, 67, was found dead on Saturday on a bathroom floor at his home in Berkshire.

"The results of the post-mortem examination, carried out by a Home Office pathologist, have found the cause of death is consistent with hanging. The pathologist has found nothing to indicate a violent struggle," a statement by the Thames Valley Police reads.

"Further tests will now be carried out, including toxicology and histology examinations, the results of which are likely to take several weeks."

Berezovsky was a close friend of another Russian fugitive and former KGB officer Alexander Litvinenko, who died in London in 2006 from poisoning by radioactive polonium-210.
