Bulgaria's former Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has missed the European Peoples Party summit in Brussels due to his recent health problems.

Borisov has explained his absence from the summit with his "unstable health condition", according to a press release published by his center-right GERB party.

Borisov was admitted to hospital with a hypertensive crisis for two times in a single week after his resignation on February 21.

EU and non-EU heads of state and government and opposition leaders of the European Peoples Party (EPP), along with the Presidents of the European Council and the European Commission - Herman van Rompuy and Jose Manuel Barroso participated in the enlarged summit of the party, which took place in Brussels on Thursday, 14 March 2013.
