Bulgaria's left-wing oppositional Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) considers boycotting the country's Parliament ahead of the general elections in July.

"I do not think we have anything left to do in the parliament," BSP leader Sergey Stanishev told reporters Tuesday. He added that BSP did not want to legitimize the ruling center-right GERB government's "attempts to escape from its responsibility."

Stanishev's statement follows a series of unprecedented mass rallies against high electricity bills that took place in the country over the last couple of days. Venting their anger at high electricity bills, the tens of thousands of protesters demanded the resignation of the cabinet and the renationalization of power distributors.

"When 100 000 people demand the government's resignation, you have a political crisis," Stanishev noted.

The party is yet to come up with an official statement declaring that it would boycott the Parliament from now on.

The protest rallies against high utility bills and monopolies are continuing Tuesday.
