Representatives of the Initiative Committee for the protest rallies against high utility bills in Bulgaria have strongly distinguished themselves from Daniela Pelovska, who was presented as their leader.

At a special emergency press conference on Tuesday of Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, and Regional Minister, Lilyana Pavlova, Pelovska thanked Borisov for the quick reaction in solving the problems which triggered the large-scale demonstrations with hundreds of thousands of Bulgarians taking on the streets.

At the conference, it was stated that Pelovska, as one of the leaders and organizers of the rallies, has written a letter to the PM with a list of demands, which he personally addressed one by one.

"The protests are a form of civil discontent and have not been politically inspired. If this Cabinet is to resign today, the day after we will not have a Parliament, everything will crash," she said, adding senior officials from previous Cabinets, responsible for the deplorable state of the country, must be prosecuted and brought to justice.

Pelovska explained that only members of the youth organization of the opposition, left-wing Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, were shouting at the rallies for the resignation of Borisov and the Cabinet, turning the protests political.

"Tell me, which other government would receive a letter and offer a solution on the very next day? There are some remaining issues, but they would be the work of the investigation, the prosecution, and the Courts, and I hope the political cover-up for big money has been finally closed," she declared.

Immediately after the conference, Yanko Petrov, one of the spokespeople of the demonstrators stressed Pelovska has not been authorized by anyone to speak on their behalf; was not representing them, and betrayed their cause.

"For what is she thanking the government? The government must go. The protests are continuing," he vowed.

Meanwhile, the site for investigative journalism Bivol.bg published an article about a check with the Registry Agency, revealing Pelovska is actually a quite wealthy business lady, notorious in the northeastern city of Dobrich – she has privatized the Spaghetti factory there and owns a large beach hotel in the nearby Kranevo.

The woman has also been in politics as a member of the National Council of the right-wing Union of Democratic Forces, UDF. She left UDF in 2005 to lead the ballot of the party New Time in Dobrich.

Bivol further informed that her daughter, architect Pavleta Pelovska, 29, has managed the Spaghetti factory before being appointed by GERB as Deputy Mayor of the Izgrev (Sunrise) district in the capital Sofia.

Her son, Vasil Pelovski, is the legal advisor of the Sofia City Hall since 2010.

Bivol cite their own source informing Pelovska is known to be close to Borisov and they often talk on the phone.

When approached about the above by journalists at the conference, the PM firmly denied ever seeing her before, while the purported protest leader said she was proud of the achievements of her children, but they had nothing to do with her. She became outraged by the questions and advised the journalists to not look at the wrong places to create a scandal.

Meanwhile, the Bulgarian Sega daily published a copy of a letter sent by Pelovska to Borisov at the time he was Chief Secretary of the Interior Ministry. The original letter appeared in 2005 in the local newspaper "Dobrudzhanska Tribuna."

In the letter, she addresses Borisov as "Dear General" and expresses her "endless gratitude" to him for personally interfering in asking the police to help her find a "missing purse with important documents and lots of money."

"Please, congratulate all policemen who helped solve this case because such cases are reinstating the trust in Bulgarian police and I highly appreciate your efforts in this direction. I firmly support your initiative for providing assistance to the children of policemen who have perished in the line of duty, so I am inviting these children to vacation free of charge in my beach hotel," the letter reads.
