The founder of Bulgarian whistleblowing website Bivol.bg have addressed a petition to the European Parliament to draw its attention to Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov's alleged murky past.
Bivol recently released a document revealing that Borisov was recruited in the past as a secret agent of the Central Services for Combatting Organized Crime, CSBOP.
Borisov was allegedly recruited as informant over his close ties with the mafia. A 1997 file, which refers to Borisov under the codename "Buddha," notes his "criminal orientation" and suggests "clarifying connections of the subject with people and businesses linked to criminal activities."
Bivol co-founders Assen Yordanov and Atanas Tchobanov, as well as Petar Penchev, member, of the Public Council of the Association for Free Speech "Anna Politkovskaya," have now written to the Petitions Committee at the European Parliament requesting a "public hearing on facts and circumstances exposing Bulgarian Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, of connections with organized crime and participation in money laundering schemes."
The whistleblowing journalists have stated that reliable evidence links Borisov with an organized criminal group for illegal drug trafficking, suspicious fuel deals and money laundering.
Yordanov, Tchobanov and Penchev have cited secret diplomatic cables published by WikiLeaks and testimonial evidence.
The whole petition, including the listed data and evidence, can be read at http://www.bivol.bg/media/Borisovgate-PETI-EN-anon.pdf
