The Netherlands no longer binds Romania's bid to join the Schengen Agreement with the European Commission's Cooperation and Verification Mechanism Report, according to a report.

This was made clear during a meeting between Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean and his Dutch counterpart Frans Timmermans, the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency says, citing Romanian media.

Corlatean has told Timmermans that his country has complies with all requirements necessary to join Europe's border-free zone.

According to Timmermans, the Dutch government has assessed Romania's latest CVM report  and has seen key improvements made by the country.

Earlier on Wednesday, it was also made clear that the Netherlands has softened its stance on Bulgaria's potential Schengen entry.

Romania and Bulgaria have been placed under the so-called EU Co-operation and Verification Mechanism in justice and home affairs, in view of perceived problems in the management of corruption and organized crime.'

In 2012, the Dutch government declared that it will oppose Bulgaria and Romania's Schengen aspirations until its sees  two consecutive positive CVM reports.
