Bulgaria: Bulgarian Buddha, Hezbollah, and National Insecurity

Previously classified documents from the 90s, just published by the independent site  for investigative journalism Bivol.bg, implicate PM Borisov as a former person of interest for the anti-mafia police, either as informant or as a suspect, codenamed Buddha.

As usual, Borisov denied both, but spoke more and drowned in his own timeline. Allegations of his criminal past from various sources have been popping up in recent years, certainly deserving attention.

Impressively and unprecedentedly, ex and acting security chiefs united against the small site in Borisov's defense.

The scandal brings to the forefront another quite sinister issue – what is cooking in national security services?

Recently, under their watch, an assailant brandishing a gun, walked unobstructed to a party leader, delivering a speech before an audience of thousands.

Classified leaks, print and wiretapped, are now part of the political landscape.

Are our security agencies infested with crooked cops, including from the Communist State security, or with incompetent people unfit for the job? Or both?

Can they discredit any senior politician or is Borisov a better target? Are they empowered to threaten stability in the country?

Who is pulling the strings behind the rule of Bulgaria?

Who said Hezbollah?
