2,112,563 positive votes are required for a binding positive outcome of Bulgaria's Sunday referendum on nuclear energy.
The national first referendum in Bulgarian democratic history since 1989 will be binding if the number of votes equals that of votes at the last parliamentary elections, 4,225,124.
If more than half of them vote 'yes' to the question - "Should nuclear energy be developed in the Republic of Bulgaria through the construction of a new nuclear power plant?" - then the government is obliged to fulfill citizens' choice.
The referendum was initiated by a public petition supported by opposition Bulgarian Socialist Party on the occasion of the frozen Belene NPP project.
If less people vote on the referendum, but the turnout is over 20%, and more than half of the votes are positive, then the question is tabled for debate to parliament.
