Bosnians Go to Polls Today

Bosnians are voting in polls widely seen as their final opportunity to put the 1992-95 war behind them and embrace a multi-ethnic future within Europe. Muslims, Serbs and Croats began filing into polling stations at dawn on Saturday in the capital Sarajevo, whose siege by Serb forces epitomised the war that set neighbour against neighbour and left open wounds among the ethnic groups. European Union foreign policy chief Javier Solana wrote in an open letter to the Bosnian people: "One alternative for Bosnia-Herzegovina is Europe... It is about creating a better life for all (of the country's) citizens,".
