Fuel prices in Bulgaria have registered a slight increase since the beginning of 2013.

The price increase came as no surprise to drivers as excise tax rates on diesel went up from BGN 630 to BGN 645 per 1000 liters on January 1, 2013.

Retail diesel prices added BGN 0.02 to an average BGN 2.55 per liter.

The most common type of gasoline, A95 H, kept trading at BGN 2.49 per liter.

Diesel prices were last changed on December 6, when the rates dropped by BGN 0.05 to BGN 2.53 per liter.

On December 6, gasoline prices dropped by BGN 0.05 to BGN 2.48 per liter.

Drivers said that the latest fuel price increase would not affect them seriously, yet small filling stations claimed they were experiencing an outflow of customers which had started even before the 2013 price update.

Filling station assistants told Darik radio Friday that people were filling up for less.

Meanwhile, it emerged that filling stations in Bulgaria had been fined a total of over BGN 1 M for offering low-quality and diluted fuels.

It was reported that the share of low-quality fuels was decreasing.

According to reports of private TV station bTV, in 2012, the share of low-quality fuels amounted to less than 3% of the total, compared to a share of over 6% in 2011 and a share of 20% some 10 years ago.
