An European Challenge Cup volleyball match between host Levski Sofia of Bulgaria and Olympiakos of Greece was abandoned on Wednesday after home fans threw flares and other objects onto the court.

Game officials were forced to end the match in the third set, when some of the home fans - allegedly enraged by their team's recent performance– launched their assault.

The enraged fans threw various objects, including beer cans and even firecrackers.

A vodka bottle hit Olympiakos captain Kostas Christofidelis on the head. .

Bulgarian Volleyball Federation head Dancho Lazarov has declared that Levski Sofia should be immediately expelled from European tournaments.
