EU has condemned North Korea's long-range missile launch, warning that it will consider imposing more sanctions to the country.

"The launch from the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) earlier today is another step in a long-running attempt by the DPRK to acquire ballistic missile technology and is thus a clear violation of the DPRK's international obligations," EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton declared Wednesday.

"The EU will consider an appropriate response, in close consultation with key partners and in line with United Nations Security Council deliberations, including possible additional restrictive measures," she added in a statement.

Ashton further urged North Korea to "comply without delay, fully and unconditionally" with UN resolutions, International Atomic Energy Agency agreements and the country's past "commitments towards denuclearisation."
