Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov hinted on Wednesday that Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov may one day succeed him.
"Why not," Borisov told reporters, referring to Tsvetanov potentially becoming Prime Minister.
"Everyone carries a marshal's baton in their knapsack," he added, paraphrasing Napoleon.
The Prime Minister's remark came in response to a journalistic question on whether he believes that Tsvetanov has been behaving like a Prime Minister recently.
However, Borisov quickly added that he was joking.
"This was a Christmas joke, a New Year's joke," he said.
"I will speak seriously now, since I know what would happen otherwise – news agencies would say "Tsvetanov for PM" – and we will be in trouble."
Commenting on Tsvetanov's controversial remarks regarding President Rosen Plevneliev, Borisov reminded that the Interior Minister has also acknowledged Plevneliev's role as unifier of the nation.
