Top seed Venus Williams has been beaten 2-6 6-1 7-6 by Bulgaria's Magdalena Maleeva in Moscow 2nd round. The sensational victory of Bulgaria's best tennis player was the first match for Venus Williams since the U.S. Open final defeat by sister Serena. Since the beginning of her career this is Magdalena's second victory over US Venus Williams after Nice tournament. The game continued for nearly one hour and forty minutes, during which Magi demonstrated will and incredible determination. The Bulgarian, who was knocked out of Top 20 of Women's Tennis Association some three days ago, lost the first set to Williams 2:6. After that unpromising start Magi recovered her strength and resolve. Magi's success was really a hard won victory, which is proved by the points total - 91 to 90 for the Bulgarian. Organisers received another blow when home favourite Anna Kournikova withdrew from the USD 2.2 M tournament with an ankle injury.
