Monday marks six years since Bulgaria's ruling centrist-right GERB party was officially established.

GERB leader and Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, as well as the party's deputy chairman, Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, congratulated GERB members and supporters on the occasion.

In a statement, Borisov and Tsvetanov say that GERB has proven to be a "successful and working political project."

The two officials have praised the party for its election victories over the years.

Support for Bulgaria's ruling GERB party fell to 23% in November, as the European Union's poorest nation struggles under austerity measures, a poll suggests.

The difference in support for GERB and the oppositional Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, is now just 3%, according to the latest poll conducted by Gallup International.
