The Turkish Air Force scrambled F-16 fighter jets along its border with Syria after Syrian warplanes reportedly attacked rebel positions in the town of Ras al-Ain on their side of the border.

Sources have said the Turkish planes came from the base in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir, RT informs.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said six of those killed by the air raids on Ras al-Ain were rebel fighters and that 30 people were wounded.

The rebels captured the locations about a month ago.

As the battle at the Syrian town continued, some stray shells landed on the Turkish territory. Residents of the affected town of Ceylanpinar, which abuts Ras al-Ain, panicked after hearing the explosions.
