The first snow in Bulgaria for the 2012-13 winter season is expected with colder weather setting in Monday, warned Bulgaria's national weather service.

For Monday the whole of the country has been placed under code yellow for potentially dangerous weather.

Precipitation will start shifting from rain to snow in the late morning, with temperatures starting to drop.

Ice and high winds are expected for some parts of western and central Bulgaria, warned the National Institute of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The week is expected to be cold, with lows well below 0 degrees Centigrade and highs little above 1 C.

In the past few days, significant snow storms wreaked havoc in parts of Central and Eastern Europe.
