Polish officials have revealed that they have arrested a man who planned to detonate a vehicle loaded with four tons of explosives outside the country's Parliament, with MPs, the President and the government being possible targets.

The suspect is a 45-year-old Polish researcher employed at the University of Agriculture in Krakow who had access to chemistry laboratories.

According to investigators, he was plotting to attack "the Constitutional organs" of Poland during the November 11 Independence Day celebrations, in which President Bronislaw Komorowski was taking part, RIA Novosti informs.

The man is believed to have been motivated by nationalistic, xenophobic and anti-Semitic ideas.

"The case looks very serious," government spokesman Pawel Gras has commented, as cited by international media. "We know that the possible targets were to be the president, the parliament and the government."
