The man detained in suspicion of intentionally starting a fire in Bulgarian Black Sea resort town of Sozopol that killed 3 persons has made full confessions.

A wooden house in Sozopol's famous Old Town burned town late Friday night, engulfing a family residing in it.

A man in his 50s managed to escape, while his wife and her parents perished in the quickly spreading flames, although the fire rescue was promptly on the spot.

Survivor Georgi Georgiev said that just before the fire started he smelled burning gasoline outside and opened the front door, upon which flames burst into the house.

Police accordingly worked on the hypothesis of intentional arson, and Sunday detained 50-year-old Pavel Gospodinov.

Later Monday, police announced that Gospodinov has made full confessions, stating the reason for his action was a personal feud with Georgiev, who had been his tenant and alledegly owed him money for rent.

The suspect however stated that he was not at all aware that there were people in the house when he set it ablaze.

He is currently being charged with arson and involuntary killing, but the charges might be modified in the course of the investigation, say the police.

Gospodinov has stated he has not been involved in other fires that have recently occured in Sozopol.

The house he self-confessedly burned down end of last week was also a protected cultural site.
