Independent Bulgarian MPs who left the ranks of the marginal conservative Order, Law, and Justice (RZS) party, will set up a new right-wing conservative party.

Dimitar Chukarski and Todor Velikov announced Thursday in Parliament that the founding meeting of their party, Democratic Alternative for National Unification (DANO), would take place on Sunday at the Bulgaria Hall in Sofia.

According to preliminary reports, as cited by Capital daily, the leader of the new political formation will be Nadezhda Sandulova, Bulgaria's representative at the European  Court of Auditors, whose term in office expires in end-2012.

Dimitar Chukarski was longtime member of the Bulgarian Agrarian People's Union of Anastasia Dimitrova-Moser, after which he switched over to the Agrarian National Union of Stefan Lichev, and then he joined the RZS party.

Todor Velikov also participated in a number of political formations, including the right-wing Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) and Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB), after which he joined Yane Yanev's RZS, of which he was organizing secretary.

Chukarski and Velikov, alongside two other former RZS members, and Ventsislav Varbanov, who left the ranks of the right-wing Blue Coalition, declared their support for the center-right GERB government to the European People's Party in Brussels over a year ago.

Asked to comment on the orientation of the new party, the independent MPs rejected allegations that they would set up a pro-Russian formation.

Chukarski and Velikov specified that DANO would be favorably inclined to Euro-Atlantic partners and to Russia.

Chukarski and Velikov and also declared that they were opening a petition to call for the dismissal of Angel Semerdzhiev, head of the State Commission for Energy and Water Regulation (DKEVR), due to the highly contested new grid access fee for producers of renewable electricity.
