New data from the National Statistical Institute (NSI) sheds light on the housing landscape in Bulgaria, painting a picture of the majority of Bulgarians residing in older homes.
Bulgaria's seasonally adjusted industrial production index fell by 1.8% on the month in September 2012, according to preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI).

In September 2012, as compared to August 2012, the seasonally adjusted industrial production index in the supply of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning decreased by 4.7%, the manufacuring industry registered a decrease of 2.5%, while the mining and quarrying industry recorded an increase by 0.6%.
The most significant decreases of production in the processing industry were observed in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 27.2%, in the manufacturing of leather and related products by 13.0%, in the manufacturing of machinery and equipment by 8.8%, in the manufacturing of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment by 6.0%, in the manufacturing of wearing apparel by 5.7%, in the manufacturing of food products by 4.1%.
There was increase in the manufacturing of tobacco products by 11.2%, in the manufacturing of basic metals by 10.0%, in the manufacturing of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations by 6.3%.
The industrial production index, calculated on the basis of working-day adjusted data, decreased by 3.6% on the year in September 2012 in the manufacturing industry, with increases registered in the electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply by 5.7% and in the mining and quarrying industry by 2.1%.
The manufacturing industry registered more significant year-on-year decreases in the repair and installation of machinery and equipment by 41.3%, in the manufacturing of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment by 20.9%, in the in the manufacturing of textiles by 14.6%, in the manufacturing of wearing apparel by 12.4%.
Increases were registered in the manufacturing of tobacco products by 29.8%, in the manufacturing of electrical equipment by 23.5%, in the manufacturing of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations by 22.3%.
