Bulgaria: Obama Victory Tweet Sets All-Time Record

The words "four more years", coupled with a photo of Barack and Michelle Obama embraced in a hug, have become the most retweeted Twitter post in history.

According to Buzzfeed, the previous record was held by teenage pop star Justin Bieber for a tweet that paid tribute to his late fan Avalanna Routh, who died of cancer in September.

The US president tweeted the message at 04:16 am GMT, and it has since been retweeted over half a million times, BBC informs.

As news of Obama's re-election broke, there were 327,452 related tweets posted every minute.

Barack Obama also thanked his supporters, posting: "This happened because of you. Thank you." That tweet has been retweeted 170,000 times, pushing it to third on the all-time list.
