Crime | November 3, 2012, Saturday // 15:56

Bulgarian police have detained a man who explained to them he has run away from a prison in neighboring Turkey.

The 56-year-old was arrested in northern Bulgarian city of Shumen after failing to present an ID when asked by the police.

He explained to police officers that he is hiding in Bulgaria, because he has escaped from a prison in Turkey.

Bulgarian authorities in Shumen are investigating whether the man has a criminal record in Bulgaria and Turkey.

They have started a procedure to transfer the man to the facility for illegal migrants in Lyubimets.
