Bulgarian Agricultural Organizations Rally: Minister's Removal Urged

Bulgaria's farmers have sowed a total of 9.8 million decares (2.4 million acres) with wheat, according to data of the District Agriculture Directorates as of November 1, 2012, the Agriculture Ministry announced.
In comparison, by November 1, 2011, the farmers in Bulgaria had sowed 6.4 million decares (1.6 million acres) with wheat, the institution said.
Less than two weeks ago, the Bulgarian Agriculture Ministry reported doubling of the wheat acreage in Bulgaria year-on-year by October 18, 2012.
A total of 1.6 million decares (some 400 000 acres) with barley were sowed in Bulgaria by November 1, 2012, compared with 1.1 million decares (270 000 acres) planted by November 1, 2011.
A total of 78 000 decares (19 000 acres) with rye were sowed in Bulgaria in the fall of 2012, almost double the acreage in 2011.
Rapeseed is the only one of the fall crops whose acreage is smaller than it was in 2011 – 1.7 million decares (420 000 acres) compared with 2.1 million decares (520 000 acres) in 2011.
Bulgaria's Agriculture Ministry also announced that a total of 99.2% of Bulgaria's corn plantations have been harvested, with preliminary data putting Bulgaria's 2012 corn output at 1.64 million metric tons, or an average of 370 kg per decare.
