All of the 21 Bulgarian sailors arrested onboard the cocaine-loaded  Sveti Nikolay (Saint Nikolay) ship off the coast of Spain will remain in custody until the investigation of the matter is wrapped up.

The decision of the Spanish court was reported Monday by private Bulgarian TV station bTV.

The 21 Bulgarian sailors face charges of crimes against public health.

It is not clear yet how long the investigation will continue.

According to Spanish legislation, a person can spend up to two years in custody without a sentence and the term can be extended by another two years.

The trial against the Bulgarian sailors is taking place in Spain.

On August 13, the Sveti Nikolay vessel was intercepted off Spain's southern coast with 3 tons of cocaine onboard.

The Spanish authorities detained 31 people, including 21 Bulgarians.
