A new investigation may be launched in connection with the shipwreck of Bulgarian cargo vessel Vanessa, according to Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov.

Vanessa shipwrecked on January 3 in the Sea of Azov with 11 crewmembers on board, 10 of them Bulgarian nationals.

Ukrainian rescuers recovered the bodies of Petko Momchev and Georgi Zhelev days after the tragedy.

Nikolay Dimitrov, a mechanic, was the only one to survive the shipwreck.

He was rescued after spending 10 hours in the ice-cold waters.

The owner of the shipwrecked vessel was found to be Burgas-based company Board Marine headed by Doychin Doychev.

Doychev also owns the Seaborne company which managed the cocaine-loaded Sv Nikolay (Saint Nikolay) ship detained in Spain.

Asked if he would initiate a new investigation over suspicions of cocaine trafficking onboard Vanessa, Tsvetanov told journalists Sunday that "anything is possible."

Bulgaria's Interior Minister noted that he had already presented details about the owner of the vessel, who had been arrested, suggesting that the authorities could reopen the case.

Tsvetanov met Sunday in Burgas with relatives of the Bulgarian sailors jailed in Spain.

He assured the families of the crew of Sv. Nikolay that the Bulgarian authorities were doing their best to ensure a thorough investigation, including an intensive cooperation with partnering services.

On August 13, the Sv. Nikolay vessel was intercepted off Spain's southern coast with 3 tons of cocaine onboard.

The Spanish authorities detained 31 people, including 21 Bulgarians.
