Bulgaria's best tennis player Magdalena Maleeva lost her first match at the Sparkassen Cup in Leipzig after an unexpected defeat by Slovakian Husarova. Husarova beat Magdalena Maleeva 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 to qualify for the second round of the competion with prize fund of USD 585,000. The Bulgarian's defeat was regarded as a great surprise as Maleeva played at the final just a year ago. Leaving the tournament at such an early stage Maleeva's results in the ranking of the World Ranklist will probably get worse. Currently she hold the 17th position. Barbara Rittner edged Greek Eleni Daniilidou 6-3 3-6 7-6 7-1 in Leipzig first round.
