Will Bulgaria Have a Stable Government After Yet Another Election in June? Our Readers Have Spoken
On our Facebook page, readers were asked about Bulgaria's stability after the June elections
Bulgaria's right-wing Blue Coalition has declared that the European Commission's highly critical report on Bulgaria's justice reform and the fight against corruption and organized crime equals a "no confidence vote" for the country's government.
Bulgaria's ruling centrist-right Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) should be renamed "citizens for European failure of Bulgaria," Blue Coalition co-chair Ivan Kostov believes.
The party believes that GERB is not capable of rescuing Bulgaria from the failure it has caused.
According to Kostov, a former PM (1997-2001), the European Commission has no hopes for a positive change while GERB's Borisov cabinet is in power. Therefore, the next monitoring report is due to be published at the end of 2013, when the country's new government will have been in power for six months.
Wednesday's keenly awaited European Commission monitoring report said that organized crime groups remain a fundamental challenge for the Bulgarian state and the society as they exercise considerable influence over the country's economy.
The report stated that the independence of Bulgaria's judiciary is threatened and that many of the reforms are inefficient.
