Protest Erupts in Sofia Demanding Interior Minister's Resignation
A protest unfolded in front of the Interior Ministry headquarters in Sofia on Monday, as citizens demanded the resignation of outgoing Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov
A three-judge panel of the Supreme Administrative Court (VAS) has sentenced Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov over inaction.
According to reports of the Bulgarian Legal World magazine, Tsvetanov was penalized for failing to issue an order setting out the provision of free food and drinks for police officers exposed to health risks and for ones working rotating shifts.
VAS ruled Tuesday that the Interior Minister was to issue the order within two months of the decision's entry into force.
VAS' ruling can be appealed before a five-judge panel of VAS within 14 days.
The lawsuit was launched on complaints of two Sofia-based police officers, Vladimir Alexiev and Dobromir Dobrev.
The order providing for free food and drinks for police officers working in dangerous conditions was issued in 2006 and was amended in 2007, 2008 and in 2010 (twice).
VAS ruled Tuesday that Tsvetanov had fulfilled his statutory obligation to issue such an order on an annual basis until 2010.
The magistrates noted that there was no evidence about such an order issued by the Interior Minister for 2011 and 2012.
