Bulgaria's Parliament will vote on the much debated amendments to the country's Forestry Act next week, it has been announced.

The lawmakers were expected to alter their agenda in order to discuss the piece of legislation and vote on it on Friday.

However, the parliamentary committee on agriculture is not ready with its report yet, MPs with the ruling centrist-right GERB have told reporters.

On Thursday, it was made clear that the agriculture committee would propose a support of the veto to Parliament, meaning that the procedure for drafting the legal changes would go back to square one..

The Forestry Act that was vetoed by President Rosen Plevneliev is expected to be discussed at an emergency sitting next Tuesday.

Plevneliev's move came after thousands of Bulgarian nature lovers and other citizens opposing the Forestry Act staged several protest rallies in the area of the key intersection of Orlov Most (Eagles Bridge) in Sofia.

In a controversial move, GERB organized several "counter-protests", forcing people from mountain towns around the country to "rally" in favor of the amendments in downtown Sofia.
